Drafts for my posters (rejected) - At first, I wanted to do a tv documentary about music and how it makes people feel or a made-up band, I ended up changed my idea because I felt like I couldn’t do allot with it, I also didn’t really have access to instruments. The issue was I didn’t really have a narrative in mind I first picked music documentaries because io personally love it but because I didn’t have access to instruments and the posters didn’t have much substance I decided to change my idea. Drafts for my posters -  I did end u p going with a true crime documentary because unlike a music documentary there are millions of posters to annotate and a lot more substance since true crime docs are one of the worlds most watched types of documentaries. I wanted one poster to show two friends having fun in pictures while behind them is a things like police tape and missing persons files to show that their bliss was interrupted by something serious. For the second poster I wa...

Statement of intent

For my documentary posters I will make sure none of my posters go out of line or against the Uk advertising standards authority and show graphic depictions of violence, gore, anything illegal, vulgar or explicit actions that would upset the audiences. I have to keep in mind that these posters will be geared more towards audiences of ages 16-25 years of age meaning that my posters must be appropriate for public showcase. I have to keep in mind that a company that would broadcast any type of media without placing restrictions and make sure that everyone is represented and characterised differently depending on the situation, so not to create a bias or a stereotype formed. Additionally, to maximise identification I wanted to make the main poster feature people between the ages of 16-25 to draw in people of those ages to promote interest and a scene of connection for the audience. I want my posters to be tailored in a darker way to boost the understanding that it’s a true crime doc...

Popularity of TV Documentaries The world-wide expansion of streaming services has allowed for the rise of tv documentaries, every major studio like Disney and paramount have a streaming service allowing their fans and watchers to only consume their media whether its movies or tv series or documentaries. This has left a lot of audiences stuck to their favourite streaming services and franchise, leaving the major studios in need of constant eye catching and entertaining content of every kind to draw in more views and expand their views pallet. From 2018 to 2021, documentary demand has grown substantially by 142%, making them the fastest growing genre on streaming services, and that number is constantly increasing and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Many theorise that the growing in demand of documentaries started during the pandemic, when people were stuck indoors and with so much time many began watching documentaries learning different cultures, opinions, real life stories eve...

Analysis of documentary posters

This poster straight away outlines what it wants its viewers to believe, the concept of a person being born a killer, how an innocent child can already be corrupt and ready to carry out their future crimes even with ought knowing what the future holds. This narrative is very narrow minded and only seems to focus on how someone is born that way, not shaped or abused that way. The tittle making a murderer suggests it almost in a light hearted way like making a cake, like there are steps and ingredients needed to make the perfect killer. The torn picture of the inmate as a young boy can signify his loss of innocence and loss of who he was before committing his crimes like if he had ripped himself in half leaving the norm in the past of his childhood and slowly descending into what eventually would be his downfall. The close up shot of his mugshot and the innocent childhood picture can make the audience feel a sense of sadness seeing side by side the reality of some peoples lives. It...
